Pleural mesothelioma The cases of pleural mesothelioma, caused primarily by exposure to asbestos, will increase in the years to come. The tumor starting from the thoracic wall (chest wall) is extremely therapy resistant (which means difficult to treat) to a radiotherapy or a chemotherapy. With some specially selected patients, it is possible to stop the disease for a fairly long period of time by performing a radical operation combined with a radiotherapy. There are indications that the effect of chemotherapy can be increased by hyperthermia. Generally, only whole-body hyperthermia can be considered, due to the extent of the tumor. The combination of chemotherapy and hyperthermia is examined in a study (WBHT- pleural mesothelioma).
