Liver Metastases / gastrointestinal tumors Many cancer diseases metastasize (i.e. spread) into the liver. For most of these diseases there exist chemotherapy concepts depending on the kind of tumor. These concepts differ in their effect. Especially for the colon carcinoma and other tumors of the gastrointestinal tract (abdominal cavity), whole-body hyperthermia is used additionally (WBHT-colorectal, WBHT-gastrointestinal). Such an additional whole-body hyperthermia can be useful especially if a previous chemotherapy alone did not show satisfying results. Under certain circumstances, liver metastates can also be treated by a regional hyperthermia combined with radiotherapy or chemotherapy (RHT-liver metastases). If the number of metastases is small (less than 4) and if they do not exceed the seize of 3-4 cm, some centers apply thermoablative methods with laser or radiofrequency.
